  17. Removing all software components and all network adapters, then trying
  18. to reinstall them when Windows NT comes back up does not work. While
  19. reinstalling network software, you must specify the domain's name and
  20. then reboot. When you try to log back on, you get a message that says:
  21. "The system cannot log you on (C00000DF). Please try again or consult
  22. your system administrator."

  24. CAUSE
  25. =====

  27. Installing an Advanced Server requires creating a new security
  28. database; however, for security reasons, you can't do this on a system
  29. that already has a security database--essentially any machine that has
  30. already been installed. This is the same reason you can't move an
  31. Advanced Server from one domain to another without completely
  32. reinstalling.

  34. WORKAROUND
  35. ==========

  37. There is no valid reason to remove all network components and then try
  38. to reinstall an Advanced Server, so the process is not supported in
  39. version 3.1. Instead, you should save your security database then do a
  40. complete reinstall. Future versions may prevent removal of the
  41. workstation or server components on Advanced Servers because these
  42. components are required for proper operation.
